As a self taught soft pastel and acrylic artist I enjoy painting landscapes and gardens, nature scenes, ballerinas and portraiture. I employ a lot of colour and expression in my paintings – a blend of impressionism and expressionism is my take on my style.
I have taught adult pastel workshops from my home in Stittsville, and have been on the executive committee of the owaa gallery. In 2013 I was a participating artist in the Stittsville Artists Studio Tour, along with five other local artists. Presently, I am a juried member of the Kanata Civic Art Gallery, and am an artist member of the Pontiac Artists’ Association, the West Carleton Arts Society and the Kanata Art Club.
One of my influences has been the painting style of French artist Edgar Degas, particularly his ballet dancers. I also favour Claude Monet and his fellow impressionist artist friends of the 19th century. Our own Canadian legend, Tom Thomson, and the Group of Seven’s Franklin Carmichael, are artists I greatly admire for their amazing connection to, and representation of, our beautiful northern Canadian landscape.
Because of my affinity to nature, I enjoy many wonderful moments at our waterfront cottage on beautiful Leslie Lake in the Pontiac region of Quebec, a continuing source of inspiration.
